Reddit is making a significant move into the sports marketing industry by forming partnerships with prominent sports leagues, including the NFL, NBA, MLB, PGA Tour, and NASCAR.
On Monday, the platform announced that users will gain access to various exclusive content such as video highlights from games and tournaments, player Q&A sessions known as AMAs, behind-the-scenes footage, and special content shared by the leagues during their seasons and major events.
The company highlighted that it has over 1,000 active sports-related communities, which have seen a remarkable increase in interest. The number of screenviews for sports forums on Reddit surged by 26% over the past year.
The sports marketing sector is anticipated to expand by more than 20%, reaching over $55 billion in value by 2030, with fans increasingly seeking sports content on platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter).
In its efforts to boost revenue ahead of a potential public offering, Reddit previously secured a $60 million annual AI licensing agreement with Google in February. Following a successful IPO, the company indicated that its first-quarter revenue soared nearly 50% year-over-year, resulting in a nearly 7% increase in Reddit’s shares after the announcement of the new sports partnerships.
