Reddit Scores Big with New Sports Partnerships: What’s Next?

Reddit is making significant strides into the thriving sports marketing industry.

On Monday, the social media platform unveiled partnerships with prominent sports leagues, including the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), PGA Tour, and NASCAR.

Through these new alliances, Reddit users will gain access to game highlights, player Q&A sessions, exclusive behind-the-scenes content, and other special media shared by the leagues throughout their respective seasons and key events.

According to Reddit, the platform boasts over 1,000 active communities centered on sports, with a notable surge in engagement. Screenviews on sports-oriented forums have risen by 26% over the past year.

The sports marketing arena is projected to expand by over 20%, surpassing a value of $55 billion by 2030, as fans increasingly turn to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) for sports content.

In its pursuit of generating additional revenue ahead of its anticipated public offering, Reddit previously secured a $60 million annual AI licensing agreement with Google in February. Following a successful initial public offering, the company reported first-quarter revenues nearly 50% greater than the previous year, resulting in a nearly 7% increase in Reddit’s stock price upon the announcement of its new sports partnerships.

Key figures include:

1,000: Active sports-related Reddit forums

20.4 billion: Screenviews of sports-related content on Reddit in the past year

249 million: Monthly engagements (posts, votes, comments) in global sports subreddits

$55 billion: Predicted value of the sports marketing sector by 2030

$243 million: Reddit’s first-quarter revenue
