Reddit Scores Big with New Sports Partnerships: What’s Next?

Reddit is making significant strides into the thriving sports marketing arena. On Monday, the platform revealed several new partnerships with prominent sports leagues, including the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), PGA Tour, and NASCAR.

As part of these partnerships, Reddit users will gain access to an array of content, including video highlights from games and tournaments, player AMAs (ask me anything sessions), behind-the-scenes videos, and exclusive material shared by the leagues during their seasons and major events.

The platform boasts over 1,000 active sports communities, with a notable surge in interest within these forums. According to Reddit, screenviews for sports-related content have risen by 26% in the past year.

The sports marketing industry is projected to grow by over 20%, reaching an estimated value of more than $55 billion by 2030, with fans increasingly turning to platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) for sports content.

In its efforts to enhance revenue streams in anticipation of a public offering, Reddit previously inked a $60 million annual AI licensing deal with Google in February. Following a successful initial public offering, the company announced first-quarter revenues that were nearly 50% higher than the previous year. Reddit’s shares rose nearly 7% on Monday following the announcement of its new sports partnerships.

Key figures include:

1,000: The number of sports-related communities on Reddit

20.4 billion: Screenviews of sports-related content on Reddit in the past year

249 million: Monthly engagements (posts, votes, comments) in sports subreddits worldwide

$55 billion: Estimated worth of the sports marketing sector by 2030
