Reddit is making a significant move into the sports marketing arena.
On Monday, the platform unveiled new partnerships with prominent sports leagues including the National Football League (NFL), the National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), the PGA Tour, and NASCAR.
These collaborations will grant Reddit users access to video highlights from various games and tournaments, player AMAs (Ask Me Anything sessions), exclusive behind-the-scenes content, and other special features from the leagues during their seasons and major events.
The company highlighted that it boasts over 1,000 active communities focused on sports, and there has been a notable rise in engagement within these forums. Screenviews of sports-related discussions on Reddit have surged by 26% in the past year.
The sports marketing industry is projected to grow more than 20%, reaching an estimated value exceeding $55 billion by 2030, with fans increasingly turning to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) for sports content.
In its effort to boost revenue ahead of a public offering, Reddit previously entered into a $60 million annual AI licensing contract with Google in February. After a successful IPO, the platform reported first-quarter revenues that were nearly 50% higher than the same period last year. Following the announcement of the new sports partnerships, Reddit shares rose nearly 7% on Monday.
