Reddit Scores Big with New Sports Partnerships

Reddit is making a significant move into the sports marketing industry, having announced several new partnerships with prominent sports leagues on Monday. These leagues include the National Football League (NFL), the National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), the PGA Tour, and NASCAR.

As part of these partnerships, Reddit users will gain access to an array of exclusive content, including video highlights from games and tournaments, player “ask me anything” (AMA) sessions, behind-the-scenes footage, and other special content shared by the leagues during their respective seasons and significant events.

Reddit highlighted that it has over 1,000 active communities focused on sports, with interest in these forums experiencing a notable surge. The platform reported a 26% increase in screenviews for sports-related topics over the past year.

The sports marketing sector is projected to grow by more than 20%, reaching a value exceeding $55 billion by 2030, as fans are increasingly turning to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) for sports content.

Seeking innovative revenue streams ahead of its public offering, Reddit previously secured a $60 million annual AI licensing deal with Google in February. Following a successful initial public offering, Reddit reported first-quarter revenues that were nearly 50% higher than those of the previous year. Following the announcement of these new sports partnerships, Reddit’s shares saw a nearly 7% increase on Monday.
