Reddit Scores Big with New Sports Partnerships!

Reddit is making a significant move into the sports marketing realm.

On Monday, the social media platform revealed several new partnerships with major sports leagues, including the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), PGA Tour, and NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing).

As part of these collaborations, Reddit users will gain access to video highlights from games and tournaments, player AMA (ask me anything) sessions, exclusive behind-the-scenes content, and other special materials shared by the leagues during their seasons and key events.

Reddit has reported having over 1,000 active communities centered around sports, with a notable rise in interest within these forums. The platform has seen a 26% increase in screen views for sports-related discussions in the past year.

The sports marketing industry is projected to grow by more than 20%, reaching a value exceeding $55 billion by 2030, as fans increasingly turn to YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) for sports content.

In its efforts to enhance revenue streams in anticipation of going public, Reddit negotiated a substantial $60 million annual AI licensing agreement with Google earlier this year. Following a successful initial public offering, the company reported first-quarter revenues nearly 50% higher than the previous year, and Reddit’s stock jumped nearly 7% on Monday following the announcement of the new sports partnerships.

Key statistics include:

1,000: The number of sports-related Reddit forums
20.4 billion: Total screen views of sports-related forums by Reddit users over the past year
249 million: Monthly interactions (posts, votes, comments) in global sports subreddits
$55 billion: Projected value of the sports marketing sector by 2030
$243 million: Reddit’s revenue in the first quarter
