Reddit is making a significant move into the sports marketing industry with new partnerships announced on Monday involving major sports leagues, including the NFL, NBA, MLB, PGA Tour, and NASCAR.
As part of this initiative, Reddit users will gain access to video highlights from games, exclusive player Q&A sessions (known as AMAs), behind-the-scenes footage, and other unique content shared by the leagues throughout their respective seasons and significant events.
Reddit reported having over 1,000 active communities centered on sports topics, noting a substantial increase in engagement, with screenviews on these forums rising 26% over the past year.
The sports marketing sector is projected to grow by more than 20%, reaching a value of over $55 billion by 2030, as fans increasingly seek out sports content on platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter).
In an effort to diversify its revenue streams ahead of a potential public offering, Reddit previously secured a $60 million-per-year AI licensing agreement with Google in February. Following the announcement of its new sports collaborations, Reddit’s shares rose nearly 7% on Monday.
