Reddit Scores Big with New Sports Partnerships!

Reddit is making a significant move into the sports marketing arena with the announcement of new partnerships with major sports leagues, including the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), PGA Tour, and NASCAR.

Starting Monday, Reddit will offer users access to video highlights from games and tournaments, player Q&A sessions, exclusive behind-the-scenes videos, and other unique content shared by the leagues during their seasons and major events.

The platform reported that it hosts over 1,000 active communities focused on sports, and engagement in these forums has surged, with screenviews on sports-related content rising by 26% in the past year.

The sports marketing industry is projected to grow by more than 20%, reaching a value of over $55 billion by 2030, as fans increasingly turn to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) for sports content.

In its quest for new revenue streams ahead of a planned public offering, Reddit recently secured a $60 million-per-year AI licensing deal with Google in February. Following the announcement of its sports partnerships, Reddit saw a nearly 7% rise in its shares on Monday.

Key statistics include:

– 1,000: Number of sports-related forums on Reddit
– 20.4 billion: Total screenviews on sports-related threads over the past year
– 249 million: Monthly engagements (including posts, votes, and comments) in sports subreddits worldwide
– $55 billion: Estimated value of the sports marketing sector by 2030
– $243 million: Reddit’s revenue for the first quarter.
