Reddit Scores Big with New Sports Partnerships!

Reddit is making a significant move into the sports marketing arena.

On Monday, the social media platform unveiled a series of new collaborations with prominent sports leagues, including the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), PGA Tour, and NASCAR.

These partnerships will allow Reddit users to access a variety of exclusive content, such as video highlights from games and tournaments, player “Ask Me Anything” sessions, behind-the-scenes footage, and other unique materials shared by the leagues throughout their seasons and major events.

According to Reddit, the platform boasts over 1,000 active communities related to sports, with engagement in these forums rising significantly. The site reported a 26% increase in screenviews for sports-related content over the last year.

The sports marketing industry is projected to grow by more than 20%, reaching an estimated value of over $55 billion by 2030, as fans increasingly turn to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) for sports content.

In its effort to bolster revenue ahead of a potential public offering, Reddit had previously secured a $60 million-per-year AI licensing agreement with Google in February. Following the announcement of the new sports partnerships, Reddit’s shares rose nearly 7% on Monday.

Key statistics include:

1,000: The number of sports-focused forums on Reddit.

20.4 billion: The total screenviews of sports-related forums in the past year.

249 million: Monthly interactions (including posts, votes, and comments) in sports subreddits worldwide.
