Reddit is making a significant move into the sports marketing arena. The social media platform announced on Monday a series of partnerships with prominent sports leagues, including the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), PGA Tour, and NASCAR.
As part of these partnerships, Reddit users will gain access to game and tournament video highlights, player “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) sessions, exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, and various special content shared by the leagues during their seasons and major events.
Reddit boasts over 1,000 active communities dedicated to sports, and engagement within these forums has surged. The platform reported a 26% increase in screenviews in sports-related forums over the past year.
The sports marketing industry is projected to grow by more than 20%, reaching a value of over $55 billion by 2030, with sports fans increasingly turning to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) for content.
In an effort to boost its revenue ahead of its anticipated public offering, Reddit has explored various monetization strategies, including a $60 million-per-year AI licensing agreement with Google established in February. Following the announcement of the new sports partnerships, Reddit’s share price rose nearly 7%.
