Reddit is making a significant move into the sports marketing industry.
On Monday, the social media platform revealed new partnerships with prominent sports leagues, including the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), PGA Tour, and NASCAR.
Users on Reddit will now have access to video highlights from games and tournaments, player AMAs (ask me anything sessions), behind-the-scenes content, and other exclusive materials shared by the leagues during their seasons and major events.
The platform boasts over 1,000 active sports-related communities, with engagement in these forums seeing a notable increase. Reddit reported a 26% rise in screenviews on sports-focused discussions over the past year.
The sports marketing sector is projected to grow by more than 20%, potentially reaching over $55 billion by 2030. Fans are increasingly turning to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) to consume sports-related material.
As Reddit prepares for a public offering, the company has been exploring various revenue streams. Earlier this year, it secured a $60 million annual AI licensing agreement with Google. Following the announcement of the sports partnerships, Reddit shares rose nearly 7% on Monday.
