Reddit Scores Big with Major Sports Partnerships!

Reddit is making a significant entry into the sports marketing industry.

On Monday, the social media platform revealed new partnerships with prominent sports organizations, including the National Football League (NFL), the National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), the PGA Tour, and NASCAR.

As part of these collaborations, Reddit users will gain access to game highlights and tournament videos, player AMAs (Ask Me Anything sessions), exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, and other unique content shared by the leagues throughout their seasons and major events.

Reddit reported that it has over 1,000 active communities dedicated to sports, with a notable rise in user engagement. Screenviews on sports-related forums have surged by 26% in the past year.

The sports marketing sector is anticipated to grow by over 20%, reaching a value exceeding $55 billion by 2030, as fans increasingly seek sports-related content on platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter).

To bolster its revenue as it prepares for a potential initial public offering (IPO), Reddit previously signed a $60 million-per-year AI licensing agreement with Google in February. Following a successful IPO, the company announced first-quarter revenues that were nearly 50% higher than the previous year. After unveiling its new sports partnerships, Reddit’s shares climbed almost 7%.

Key figures include:

1,000: The number of sports-related Reddit forums
20.4 billion: Screenviews of sports-related content on Reddit over the past year
249 million: Monthly engagements (posts, votes, comments) in sports subreddits worldwide
$55 billion: Projected value of the sports marketing industry by 2030
$243 million: Reddit’s first-quarter revenue
