Reddit Scores Big with Major Sports Partnerships!

Reddit is making a significant move into the sports marketing arena. On Monday, the social media platform revealed new partnerships with prominent sports leagues, including the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), PGA Tour, and NASCAR.

As part of these collaborations, Reddit users will have the opportunity to access video highlights from games and tournaments, participate in player AMAs (Ask Me Anything sessions), view behind-the-scenes content, and enjoy special materials shared by the leagues during their seasons and key events.

The platform noted that it boasts more than 1,000 active sports communities, with a substantial increase in interest among users. In the past year, the number of screenviews for sports-related forums surged by 26%.

The sports marketing industry is projected to grow by over 20%, reaching an estimated value of more than $55 billion by 2030. Fans are increasingly turning to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) for sports content.

In an effort to boost revenue following its preparations for a public offering, Reddit secured a $60 million-per-year AI licensing agreement with Google in February. After a successful IPO, the company reported a nearly 50% increase in first-quarter revenue compared to the previous year. Following the announcement of these new sports partnerships, Reddit’s stock rose nearly 7% on Monday.

Key statistics include:

1,000: Number of sports-related forums on Reddit
20.4 billion: Screenviews of sports forums over the past year
249 million: Monthly engagements (posts, votes, comments) in sports subreddits globally
$55 billion: Estimated value of the sports marketing sector by 2030
$243 million: Reddit’s revenue for the first quarter
