Reddit Scores Big with Major Sports Partnerships!

Reddit is making significant strides into the sports marketing arena.

On Monday, the social media platform unveiled new partnerships with several major sports leagues including the National Football League (NFL), the National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), the PGA Tour, and NASCAR.

These collaborations will provide Reddit users with access to game highlights, player Q&A sessions (known as AMAs), behind-the-scenes footage, and other exclusive content shared by these leagues throughout their seasons and key events.

Reddit reports having over 1,000 active sports communities, with user engagement in these forums seeing a notable rise. The platform noted a 26% increase in screenviews in sports-related sections over the past year.

The sports marketing sector is projected to grow by more than 20%, potentially reaching a value of over $55 billion by 2030, as fans increasingly turn to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) for sports content.

To bolster its revenue as it prepares for an initial public offering, Reddit has been exploring new financial avenues. In February, it secured a $60 million annual AI licensing agreement with Google. Following the announcement of these new sports partnerships, Reddit’s stock rose nearly 7% on Monday.

Key figures include:

1,000: Active sports-related Reddit forums

20.4 billion: Screenviews of sports-related content on Reddit over the past year

249 million: Monthly engagements (posts, votes, comments) in sports subreddits worldwide

$55 billion: Expected value of the sports marketing sector by 2030

$243 million: Reddit’s revenue for the first quarter
