Reddit Scores Big with Major Sports Partnerships

Reddit is making a significant move into the sports marketing arena by announcing numerous partnerships with major sports leagues, including the NFL, NBA, MLB, PGA Tour, and NASCAR.

The platform will provide its users with access to game and tournament highlights, player AMAs (Ask Me Anything sessions), behind-the-scenes videos, and exclusive content shared by the leagues throughout their seasons and key events.

According to Reddit, the platform boasts over 1,000 active communities focused on sports, with a notable 26% increase in screenviews for sports-related forums over the past year.

The sports marketing sector is projected to grow by more than 20%, reaching a value exceeding $55 billion by 2030. Fans are increasingly turning to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) for sports content.

In an effort to boost its revenues ahead of a potential IPO, Reddit signed a lucrative $60 million-per-year AI licensing deal with Google in February. Following the announcement of its new sports partnerships, Reddit’s shares rose nearly 7% on Monday.

Key figures include:

1,000: Number of sports-related forums on Reddit
20.4 billion: Screenviews in sports forums over the past year
249 million: Monthly engagements (posts, votes, comments) in sports subreddits worldwide
$55 billion: Estimated market value of the sports marketing sector by 2030
$243 million: Reddit’s reported revenue for the first quarter.
