Reddit Scores Big with Major Sports Leagues: What’s Next?

Reddit is making a significant move into the sports marketing arena with new partnerships announced on Monday. The social media platform has teamed up with several major sports leagues, including the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), PGA Tour, and NASCAR.

As part of these partnerships, Reddit users will gain access to various exclusive content, including game and tournament video highlights, player AMAs (Ask Me Anything sessions), behind-the-scenes videos, and additional special content shared by the leagues during their seasons and major events.

Reddit reports having over 1,000 active communities within the sports category, with a notable increase in engagement. The site noted a 26% rise in screenviews for sports-related forums over the past year.

The sports marketing industry is projected to grow by more than 20%, reaching over $55 billion by 2030. Fans are increasingly turning to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) for sports-related content.

With its public offering on the horizon, Reddit has been exploring new revenue streams. Earlier this year, the platform secured a $60 million-per-year AI licensing agreement with Google. Following the announcement of the sports partnerships, Reddit’s shares saw an increase of nearly 7%.
