Reddit is making a significant move into the sports marketing arena.
On Monday, the social media platform announced new partnerships with several major sports leagues, including the National Football League (NFL), the National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), the PGA Tour, and NASCAR.
Through these collaborations, Reddit users will have access to video game highlights, player “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) sessions, behind-the-scenes footage, and other exclusive content shared by the leagues during their seasons and special events.
The platform currently hosts over 1,000 active communities dedicated to sports, with a notable increase in user engagement; screenviews on sports-related forums have surged by 26% over the past year.
The sports marketing industry is projected to grow by more than 20%, reaching over $55 billion by 2030, as fans increasingly turn to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) for sports content.
In its efforts to boost revenue ahead of a public offering, Reddit previously secured a $60 million-per-year AI licensing agreement with Google in February. Following the announcement of its new sports partnerships, Reddit’s shares rose nearly 7%.
Key statistics include:
– 1,000 sports-related Reddit forums
– 20.4 billion screenviews of these forums in the last year
– 249 million monthly engagements in global sports subreddits
– $55 billion projected value of the sports marketing sector by 2030
– $243 million revenue reported by Reddit for the first quarter.
