Reddit is making significant strides into the thriving sports marketing arena.
On Monday, the platform unveiled a series of partnerships with prominent sports leagues including the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), PGA Tour, and the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR).
As part of this initiative, Reddit users will gain access to a variety of content, such as game and tournament video highlights, player AMAs (Ask Me Anything sessions, essentially Q&As), behind-the-scenes videos, and exclusive materials shared by the leagues during their seasons and major events.
Reddit boasts over 1,000 active communities dedicated to sports, with a substantial increase in engagement within these forums. The platform reported a 26% rise in screenviews for sports-related discussions over the past year.
The sports marketing sector is projected to grow by over 20%, reaching a value exceeding $55 billion by 2030, with fans predominantly consuming sports content through platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter).
In its quest for revenue growth ahead of a potential public offering, Reddit recently signed a $60 million-per-year AI licensing agreement with Google. Following a successful IPO, the company announced that its first-quarter revenues soared nearly 50% compared to the previous year, leading to a nearly 7% increase in Reddit’s stock price after the announcement of the new sports partnerships.
