Reddit is making a significant move into the sports marketing arena, announcing several new partnerships with major sports leagues on Monday. The collaboration includes the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), PGA Tour, and NASCAR.
As part of these partnerships, Reddit users will have access to video highlights from various games and tournaments, player Q&A sessions (known as AMAs), behind-the-scenes videos, and exclusive content shared by the leagues during their seasons and major events.
The platform boasts over 1,000 active communities dedicated to sports, with engagement in these forums notably rising. Screenviews in sports-related discussions increased by 26% in the past year.
The sports marketing industry is projected to grow by more than 20%, reaching over $55 billion by 2030. Fans are increasingly turning to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) for sports content.
Reddit has been exploring new revenue streams in anticipation of its public offering. Earlier this year, the company secured a $60 million-per-year AI licensing deal with Google. Following a successful IPO, Reddit reported first-quarter revenues nearly 50% higher than the previous year, and shares saw a nearly 7% increase after the announcement of the sports partnerships.
