Reddit is making a significant move into the sports marketing industry.
On Monday, the social media platform unveiled new partnerships with several prominent sports leagues, including the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), PGA Tour, and NASCAR.
As part of these partnerships, Reddit users will have access to a range of exclusive content, such as video highlights from games and tournaments, player “ask me anything” sessions, behind-the-scenes videos, and other special materials that leagues will share during their seasons and major events.
Reddit reported that it has over 1,000 active sports communities, with engagement in these forums seeing a notable rise. Screenviews for sports-related discussions have increased by 26% in the past year.
The sports marketing sector is expected to grow by over 20%, reaching a value of more than $55 billion by 2030. Fans are increasingly turning to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly known as Twitter) for sports content.
In response to the need for new revenue streams as it prepares for a public offering, Reddit previously signed a $60 million-per-year licensing agreement with Google for AI services in February. After a successful IPO, Reddit reported first-quarter revenues nearly 50% higher than the previous year. Following the announcement of the new sports partnerships, Reddit’s shares rose by nearly 7% on Monday.
