Reddit Scores Big: New Partnerships Set to Transform Sports Engagement

Reddit is making a significant move into the sports marketing industry with the announcement of several new partnerships with major sports leagues, including the NFL, NBA, MLB, PGA Tour, and NASCAR.

As part of these partnerships, Reddit users will gain access to a variety of content, including video highlights from games and tournaments, player AMAs (ask me anything sessions), behind-the-scenes footage, and exclusive content posted by the leagues during their seasons and major events.

Reddit boasts over 1,000 active communities focused on sports, which have seen a notable surge in interest. The platform reported a 26% increase in screen views on sports-related forums over the past year.

The sports marketing sector is projected to experience substantial growth, expected to surpass $55 billion by 2030, with fans increasingly turning to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) for sports-related content.

In its efforts to boost revenue ahead of a public offering, Reddit previously secured a $60 million-per-year AI licensing deal with Google in February. Following the announcement of the new sports partnerships, Reddit’s shares rose nearly 7% on Monday.

Key statistics highlight the engagement within the sports sector on the platform: there are 1,000 sports-related Reddit forums, 20.4 billion screen views in the past year, 249 million monthly engagements across sports subreddits, and Reddit’s first-quarter revenue reached $243 million.
