Reddit Scores Big: New Partnerships Set to Revolutionize Sports Engagement

Reddit is making a significant move into the sports marketing arena with several new partnerships announced on Monday. The social media platform has joined forces with major sports leagues, including the NFL, NBA, MLB, PGA Tour, and NASCAR.

In a bid to enhance user experience, Reddit will now offer its users access to a variety of content, including video highlights from games and tournaments, player AMA sessions, behind-the-scenes footage, and other exclusive content from the leagues during their respective seasons and major events.

Reddit has reported that it boasts over 1,000 active communities focused on sports, with a notable increase in engagement on these forums. Screenviews for sports-related discussions have risen by 26% over the past year.

The sports marketing sector is projected to grow by more than 20%, reaching a value exceeding $55 billion by 2030, as fans increasingly turn to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) for sports content.

In light of its upcoming public offering, Reddit has been exploring various revenue streams, including a $60 million-per-year AI licensing agreement with Google established earlier this year. Following the announcement of these new sports partnerships, Reddit’s shares saw an uptick of nearly 7% on Monday.

Key figures highlight the growth of sports content on the platform: there are currently 1,000 sports-related forums, Reddit users have amassed 20.4 billion screenviews of these forums in the last year, and there are 249 million monthly engagements—including posts, votes, and comments—in sports subreddits. Additionally, Reddit reported a first-quarter revenue of $243 million.
