Reddit is making a significant move into the thriving sports marketing industry.
On Monday, the social media platform revealed a series of new partnerships with prominent sports leagues, including the National Football League (NFL), the National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), the PGA Tour, and NASCAR.
As part of these partnerships, Reddit users will have access to game and tournament video highlights, player AMA sessions (which offer an interactive Q&A format), behind-the-scenes videos, and exclusive content shared by the leagues throughout their seasons and major events.
The platform highlighted that it hosts over 1,000 active sports-related communities, with engagement in these forums seeing a substantial increase. Reports indicate that screenviews on sports forums surged by 26% over the past year.
The sports marketing sector is projected to grow by more than 20%, reaching a value exceeding $55 billion by 2030, as fans increasingly turn to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) for sports content.
To bolster its financial position ahead of a potential public offering, Reddit has been exploring various revenue-generating strategies, including a $60 million annual AI licensing agreement with Google established in February. Following the announcement of the new sports partnerships, Reddit’s shares experienced a nearly 7% increase.
Key statistics include:
