Reddit Scores Big: New Partnerships Ignite Sports Content Revolution

Reddit is making a significant move into the sports marketing industry with the announcement of several new partnerships with prominent sports leagues, including the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), PGA Tour, and NASCAR.

As part of these collaborations, Reddit users will have access to a variety of exclusive content. This will include video highlights from events, “ask me anything” sessions with players, behind-the-scenes footage, and other special features from the leagues throughout their respective seasons and major competitions.

According to Reddit, the platform hosts over 1,000 active communities focused on sports, and user engagement has seen a notable rise, with screenviews for sports-related forums climbing 26% in the past year.

The sports marketing industry is anticipated to grow by more than 20%, reaching a value exceeding $55 billion by 2030, as fans increasingly turn to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) for sports content.

In recent efforts to enhance its revenue stream in preparation for a public offering, Reddit secured a $60 million-per-year AI licensing agreement with Google in February. Following the announcement of these new sports partnerships, Reddit’s shares rose nearly 7%.

Key statistics include:

1,000: The number of sports-related forums on Reddit
20.4 billion: Screenviews of sports-related discussions over the past year
249 million: Monthly interactions (posts, votes, comments) in sports subreddits worldwide
$55 billion: Projected market value of the sports marketing sector by 2030
