Reddit is making a significant move into the sports marketing industry. On Monday, the popular social media platform announced new partnerships with several major sports leagues, including the National Football League (NFL), the National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), the PGA Tour, and NASCAR.
As part of these agreements, Reddit users will have access to video highlights from games and tournaments, player “Ask Me Anything” sessions, behind-the-scenes videos, and exclusive content from the leagues throughout their seasons and key events.
The platform boasts over 1,000 active communities dedicated to sports, with interest in these forums rising sharply. Reddit reported a 26% increase in screenviews for sports-related content over the past year.
The sports marketing sector is projected to expand by more than 20% and exceed a value of $55 billion by 2030. Fans are increasingly turning to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) for sports-related content.
In its efforts to boost revenue ahead of a public offering, Reddit previously secured a $60 million annual AI licensing deal with Google in February. Following the announcement of the new sports partnerships, Reddit shares rose nearly 7%.
Key figures include:
– 1,000: Total number of sports-related Reddit forums
– 20.4 billion: Screenviews for sports-related content on Reddit in the past year
– 249 million: Monthly engagements in sports subreddits worldwide
– $55 billion: Projected value of the sports marketing sector by 2030
