Reddit is making a significant move into the sports marketing industry by announcing new partnerships with major sports leagues. The platform has joined forces with the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), PGA Tour, and NASCAR.
As part of these partnerships, Reddit users will gain access to video highlights from games and events, player Q&A sessions, exclusive behind-the-scenes content, and other special features shared by the leagues throughout their respective seasons.
Reddit boasts over 1,000 active sports communities, with a reported 26% increase in screenviews in sports-related forums over the past year. The sports marketing sector is anticipated to grow by more than 20%, reaching a market value of over $55 billion by 2030, as fans increasingly turn to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) for sports content.
In its efforts to bolster revenue before going public, Reddit recently secured a $60 million-per-year AI licensing agreement with Google. Following these announcements, Reddit’s shares rose nearly 7%. In the first quarter after its successful IPO, the company’s revenues rose by nearly 50% compared to the previous year.
Statistics show that there are 1,000 sports-related forums on Reddit, which had 20.4 billion screenviews in the last year. Additionally, sports subreddits generated 249 million engagements globally, while Reddit reported a first-quarter revenue of $243 million.
