Reddit Scores Big: Major Sports Leagues Join Forces!

Reddit is making a significant move into the sports marketing arena. On Monday, the social media platform announced new partnerships with several major sports leagues, including the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), PGA Tour, and NASCAR.

As part of these partnerships, Reddit users will gain access to video highlights from games and tournaments, player Q&A sessions (AMAs), behind-the-scenes content, and other exclusive materials from the leagues throughout their ongoing seasons and key events.

The platform boasts over 1,000 active communities focused on sports, and engagement in these forums has surged. Reddit reported a 26% increase in screenviews for sports-related discussions over the past year.

The sports marketing industry is projected to grow by more than 20%, reaching a value exceeding $55 billion by 2030, with fans increasingly turning to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) for sports content.

In a bid to enhance its revenue as it prepares for a public offering, Reddit recently secured a $60 million annual AI licensing agreement with Google. Following the announcement of these partnerships, Reddit’s shares experienced a nearly 7% increase on Monday.

Key figures highlight the following:

1,000: Number of sports-related Reddit forums
20.4 billion: Screenviews on sports-related Reddit forums over the last year
249 million: Monthly interactions (posts, votes, comments) in sports subreddits worldwide
$55 billion: Projected value of the sports marketing industry by 2030
$243 million: Reddit’s revenue for the first quarter
