Reddit is making a significant move into the sports marketing industry.
On Monday, the social media platform revealed several new partnerships with key sports leagues, including the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), PGA Tour, and NASCAR.
As part of these partnerships, Reddit users will have access to a variety of content, including video highlights from games, player Q&A sessions (known as AMAs), behind-the-scenes videos, and other exclusive materials shared by the leagues throughout their seasons and major events.
Reddit noted that it hosts over 1,000 active sports communities, with engagement in these forums rising significantly. Specifically, screenviews of sports-related threads have surged by 26% in the past year.
The sports marketing sector is projected to grow by over 20%, reaching a valuation of more than $55 billion by 2030, as fans increasingly turn to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) for sports content.
In an effort to boost its revenue as it prepares for a public offering, Reddit recently secured a $60 million annual AI licensing agreement with Google. Following a successful initial public offering, the company reported a nearly 50% increase in first-quarter revenues compared to the previous year. Reddit’s stock rose nearly 7% on Monday after announcing the new sports partnerships.
Key figures to highlight include:
1,000: Number of sports-related Reddit forums
20.4 billion: Total screenviews of sports-related forums over the past year
249 million: Monthly engagements (posts, votes, comments) in global sports subreddits
