Reddit is making significant strides into the vibrant world of sports marketing. On Monday, the social media platform revealed new partnerships with several major sports leagues, including the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), PGA Tour, and NASCAR.
Through these collaborations, Reddit users will have access to a variety of exclusive content. This includes video highlights from games and tournaments, player AMAs (Ask Me Anything sessions), behind-the-scenes videos, and other unique content shared by the leagues throughout their seasons and key events.
Reddit boasts over 1,000 active communities dedicated to sports, and engagement in these forums has surged recently. The platform reported a 26% increase in screenviews for sports-related discussions over the past year.
The sports marketing industry is projected to grow by more than 20%, reaching an estimated value of over $55 billion by 2030. Fans are increasingly turning to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly known as Twitter) for sports content.
As Reddit prepares for a public offering, the company is exploring new revenue streams. Earlier this year, it secured a $60 million annual AI licensing agreement with Google. Following the announcement of its sports partnerships, Reddit’s shares rose nearly 7% on Monday.
Key statistics include 1,000 sports-related Reddit forums, 20.4 billion screenviews in sports discussions over the past year, 249 million monthly engagements in sports subreddits worldwide, and Reddit’s first-quarter revenue of $243 million.
