Reddit Scores Big in Sports Marketing: What’s Next?

Reddit is making a significant push into the sports marketing industry, announcing several new partnerships with prominent sports leagues on Monday, including the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), PGA Tour, and NASCAR.

As part of these partnerships, Reddit users will gain access to video highlights from games and tournaments, player AMAs (ask me anything sessions), behind-the-scenes content, and other exclusive materials shared by the leagues throughout their seasons and major events.

The platform boasts over 1,000 active communities centered around sports, with engagement in these forums reportedly surging. Reddit noted a 26% increase in screenviews on sports-related forums over the past year.

The sports marketing sector is projected to grow more than 20%, potentially surpassing a valuation of $55 billion by 2030, as fans increasingly turn to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) for sports content.

In an effort to boost its revenues ahead of a public offering, Reddit has also established a $60 million-per-year AI licensing agreement with Google. Following the announcement of these new sports partnerships, Reddit’s shares rose nearly 7%.

249 million: Monthly engagements (posts, votes, comments) in global sports subreddits
