Reddit is expanding its reach into the sports marketing industry with new partnerships announced on Monday. The social media platform is collaborating with major sports leagues including the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), PGA Tour, and NASCAR.
As part of these partnerships, Reddit users will gain access to exclusive content including video highlights from games and tournaments, player “Ask Me Anything” sessions, behind-the-scenes footage, and various special content shared by the leagues during the sports seasons and major events.
Reddit reports that it hosts over 1,000 active communities focused on sports, which have seen significant growth in engagement. The site noted a 26% increase in screenviews within sports-related forums over the past year.
The sports marketing sector is projected to grow by more than 20%, potentially exceeding $55 billion in value by 2030, as fans increasingly engage with sports content on platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter).
In its efforts to increase revenue ahead of a potential public offering, Reddit previously secured a $60 million annual AI licensing deal with Google in February. Following the announcement of the new sports partnerships, Reddit’s stock rose nearly 7% on Monday.
Key figures include:
– 1,000 active sports forums on Reddit
– 20.4 billion screenviews of sports-related content in the last year
– 249 million global monthly engagements in sports subreddits
– $55 billion projected value of the sports marketing sector by 2030
– $243 million in Reddit’s first-quarter revenue.
