Reddit Ramps Up Sports Engagement with Major League Partnerships

Reddit is making a significant move into the sports marketing arena with new partnerships established with several major sports leagues, including the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), PGA Tour, and NASCAR.

Starting Monday, Reddit will offer its users a variety of exclusive content, such as game and tournament video highlights, player Q&A sessions, behind-the-scenes footage, and other special materials shared by the leagues during their seasons and major events.

The platform noted that it currently hosts over 1,000 active communities centered around sports, with engagement within these forums seeing a notable increase. In the past year, screenviews related to sports content have risen by 26%.

The sports marketing industry is projected to experience a growth of over 20%, reaching more than $55 billion by 2030, as fans increasingly turn to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) for sports-related content.

Reddit has been exploring new revenue streams as it prepares for a potential public offering. Earlier this year, the site entered a $60 million annual AI licensing agreement with Google. Following the announcement of its new sports partnerships, Reddit’s stock saw an increase of nearly 7%.

In summary, the latest statistics reflect:

1,000: Active sports-related Reddit forums
20.4 billion: Screenviews of sports forums in the past year
249 million: Monthly engagements (including posts, votes, and comments) in sports subreddits globally
$55 billion: Projected value of the sports marketing sector by 2030
$243 million: Reddit’s revenue for the first quarter.
