Reddit Kicks Off Sports Marketing Revolution: What to Expect?

Reddit is making a significant move into the sports marketing industry, announcing new partnerships with several major sports leagues, including the NFL, NBA, MLB, PGA Tour, and NASCAR.

As part of this initiative, Reddit users will gain access to video highlights from various games and tournaments, as well as player AMAs (Ask Me Anything sessions), behind-the-scenes content, and special features shared by the leagues throughout their seasons and key events.

The platform has over 1,000 active sports communities, and engagement in these forums has surged, with screenviews related to sports rising by 26% in the past year.

The sports marketing sector is projected to expand by more than 20%, reaching a value exceeding $55 billion by 2030. Fans predominantly seek sports-related content on platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter).

In recent efforts to boost revenue ahead of a potential public offering, Reddit secured a $60 million per year AI licensing agreement with Google in February. Following the announcement of its new sports partnerships, Reddit’s shares saw an increase of nearly 7% on Monday.

Key Metrics:

1,000: Number of sports-related Reddit forums
20.4 billion: Screenviews in sports forums over the past year
249 million: Monthly engagements (posts, votes, comments) in sports subreddits worldwide
$55 billion: Estimated value of the sports marketing sector by 2030
