Reddit Blitzes Into Sports Marketing: What’s Next?

Reddit is making a significant move into the sports marketing arena.

On Monday, the platform announced a series of partnerships with prominent sports organizations, including the National Football League (NFL), the National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), the PGA Tour, and NASCAR.

As part of these collaborations, Reddit users will gain access to a variety of content, including video highlights from games, player AMA sessions, behind-the-scenes footage, and other exclusive material shared by the leagues throughout their seasons and during major events.

Reddit reported that it hosts over 1,000 active communities focused on sports, with significant growth in engagement. Screenviews in sports-related forums have surged by 26% in the past year.

Experts predict that the sports marketing industry will expand by more than 20%, reaching a valuation exceeding $55 billion by 2030. Fans are increasingly turning to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) for sports content.

In its efforts to elevate revenue ahead of a potential public offering, Reddit previously secured a $60 million-per-year AI licensing agreement with Google in February. Following the announcement of these sports partnerships, Reddit’s shares rose nearly 7%.

By the numbers:

1,000: Number of sports-related Reddit forums
20.4 billion: Screenviews of sports-related forums on Reddit last year
249 million: Monthly engagements (posts, votes, comments) in sports subreddits worldwide
$55 billion: Projected worth of the sports marketing sector by 2030
$243 million: Reddit’s revenue in the first quarter
