Haason Reddick is moving closer to a possible resolution with the New York Jets as he hires veteran NFL agent Drew Rosenhaus following the termination of his previous representation. Rosenhaus stated that his primary objective is to resolve Reddick’s contract issues and retain him in New York. Meanwhile, the Jets are preparing for alternative outcomes, having given Rosenhaus the green light to pursue trade options for the unhappy player, according to CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones.
Rosenhaus is actively reaching out to other NFL teams as the trade deadline approaches in three weeks, set for Tuesday, Nov. 5.
This shift marks a new stance from the Jets management, as general manager Joe Douglas had previously indicated that the team would not entertain Reddick’s original trade request made during the preseason. The Jets have also declined to meet Reddick’s contract expectations, insisting they have been transparent and consistent about their position regarding a new deal since acquiring the Pro Bowler from the Philadelphia Eagles in April. Reddick has not yet appeared in any games this season while pushing for a noteworthy increase in pay.
Reddick’s father, Raymond Matthew, expressed to ESPN in April that his son deserved “market value” after “outperforming his contract.” Reddick recorded a total of 27 sacks over two seasons with playoff appearances while with the Eagles and is currently in the last year of a three-year, $45 million contract that he signed with Philadelphia during the 2022 free agency period. He has been missing nearly $800,000 per week during his holdout.
Regardless of where the former first-round draft pick may land, he needs to be activated by Week 13 for the 2024 season to be applicable under his current contract, paving the way for him to enter free agency after the season ends.
