Red Sox Rookie Shines in Stellar Comeback Game

Boston Red Sox rookie Roman Anthony made an impressive mark in just his second game by hitting a two-run double for his first Major League Baseball hit and contributing significantly to the team’s 3-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park on Tuesday night. Following a challenging debut where he went hitless and committed an error in an 11-inning loss, Anthony bounced back energetically, going 1 for 4 at the plate while his family cheered from the stands.

The game’s pivotal moment occurred in the first inning when Rafael Devers reached base on a single. After Carlos Narváez hit a double to put Devers on third, Anthony capitalized by hitting a sharp double to left field, giving the Red Sox a quick 2-0 lead. veteran Trevor Story also shone in the game, contributing two hits, including a solo home run that soared over the Green Monster and onto Lansdowne Street.

On the mound, Lucas Giolito delivered a strong performance, achieving his first win in five starts. He limited the Rays to just one unearned run—caused by his own pickoff error—over six innings, striking out four batters while allowing three hits and three walks. Greg Weissert sealed the victory by pitching the ninth inning for his first career save. For Tampa Bay, Ryan Pepiot put in a solid effort despite the loss, allowing three runs over 5 2/3 innings while striking out nine.

On a positive note, Story has been on a roll, boasting four consecutive multihit games after struggling in the previous month.

Looking ahead, the series finale will feature Tampa’s right-hander Zack Littell against Boston’s Walker Buehler, setting the stage for another exciting matchup.
