EMPORIA, Kan. – The Emporia Police Department has made a tragic discovery in connection with the case of Rebecca Rauber, a woman who was reported missing. Authorities located her deceased body in a wooded area, just 300 yards from where she was last seen on video in the 700 block of West 4th Avenue.

The investigation revealed that Rauber was captured on surveillance footage around 11:44 p.m. on Friday, just hours before her disappearance. During the harsh snowstorm that struck the area, which intensified on Saturday, Jan. 24, it is believed that Rauber may have succumbed to hypothermia.

Detectives from the Emporia Police Department are currently processing the scene as the investigation continues. In a statement, officials expressed their condolences and heartfelt gratitude to the community for their support. They also highlighted the collaborative efforts made by various agencies, including the Kansas Highway Patrol, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, and Search and Rescue of Kansas, who devoted significant resources in their search for Rauber.

The police department emphasized the importance of community involvement during such critical times, as every effort made towards locating individuals in distress is crucial. They have notified Rauber’s next of kin and extended their thoughts and prayers to her family during this incredibly difficult time.
