Real Salt Lake has confirmed the contract extension of defender DeAndre Yedlin through 2027, with an option for an additional year. The announcement made on Monday highlights the club’s commitment to keeping the 32-year-old right back, who joined RSL in a trade from FC Cincinnati on August 21 in exchange for approximately $300,000 in general allocation money for 2025.
Yedlin, a three-time MLS All-Star and veteran of the U.S. Men’s National Team, made an immediate impact on his arrival, featuring in seven league matches and scoring his first MLS goal since 2013 in a notable 3-1 victory against Austin FC on September 27. Reflecting on his time at RSL, Yedlin expressed enthusiasm for the future, stating, “RSL is now home for the foreseeable future, and I’m excited to build upon my time here over the last few months.”
Throughout his career, Yedlin has accumulated 183 matches with two goals and 17 assists, playing for notable teams including the Seattle Sounders, Inter Miami, and FC Cincinnati. His experience extends beyond MLS as he previously played in England with Tottenham Hotspur, Sunderland, and Newcastle United, alongside a stint at Galatasaray in Turkey. Internationally, Yedlin has earned 81 caps for the USMNT, featuring in FIFA World Cup tournaments in 2014 and 2022.
Yedlin’s commitment signals optimism for Real Salt Lake as they aim to build a competitive squad for the coming seasons. His experience and leadership will be pivotal as the club seeks to establish a strong culture and strive for trophies in the future, mirroring trends across the league where loyalty and long-term impacts of seasoned players like Yedlin are increasingly valued.
This extension not only reflects confidence in Yedlin as a key player but also highlights RSL’s strategy of strengthening their squad through retaining experienced talent while aiming for sustained success in MLS. Fans can look forward to seeing how Yedlin’s contributions will play a crucial role in RSL’s upcoming campaigns.
