Real Madrid Thrives with Penalty Power in San Sebastián Showdown

Real Madrid secured a 2-0 victory against Real Sociedad, with Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior both scoring penalties in the second half to enhance Carlo Ancelotti’s side’s image.

The match took place at the Reale Arena in San Sebastián, where Real Madrid started with high intensity. The first chance came in the 2nd minute for the home team, as Sergio Gómez’s free kick was deflected by Thibaut Courtois for a corner.

Amidst a fast pace, Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé aimed a shot at goal but was well defended by Nayef Aguerd. The first quarter of the match saw Real Sociedad dominate possession, although clear goal-scoring opportunities were scarce.

As the game progressed, both sides began to match each other’s play. Despite some discomfort on the pitch, Mbappé made his presence felt again, forcing another save from the Sociedad goalkeeper, Álex Remiro.

Real Sociedad responded with a powerful long-range effort from Luka Sucic that hit the crossbar. The match was intensely contested, with Éder Militão’s header being thwarted by a vigilant Remiro, keeping the score level.

The first half continued with both teams pushing for the opener, and Sheraldo Becker nearly put Real Sociedad ahead, but once more the post denied him.

The home team maintained pressure but Madrid’s defense stood firm, blocking two consecutive attempts from Sucic and Takefusa Kubo within the box.

The second half began at a frantic pace, with Sucic hitting the post again just 20 seconds after the restart. Real Madrid then capitalized on a handball by Sergio Gómez, leading to a penalty converted by Vinícius Júnior, narrowly escaping a block by Remiro.

Despite pushing back, Real Sociedad missed a couple of good headed chances from Aguerd. The game shifted decisively when the VAR intervened to review a possible penalty on Vinícius. The referee awarded a penalty for a foul on the Brazilian, which Mbappé converted to double Madrid’s lead.

With no further significant action, Real Madrid maintained control of the game, finishing just one point behind the league leaders, while Real Sociedad dropped to 16th place.
