Real Madrid Secures Young Talent: Álvaro Carreras Joins the Ranks

Álvaro Carreras, a promising 22-year-old left-back, has officially signed a six-year contract with Real Madrid, extending until June 30, 2031. Carreras, who began his football journey in the youth ranks at Real Madrid before training at Manchester United and excelling at Benfica, was confirmed to rejoin the club where he developed his skills.

Real Madrid announced the transfer agreement with Sport Lisboa e Benfica, and Carreras will be formally introduced at a press conference scheduled for this Tuesday at 13:00 in Ciudad Real Madrid. Notably, he is the fourth signing for the 2025/26 season, adding depth to a defensive line that has faced challenges due to injuries over the past season.

While with Benfica, Carreras played a significant role, featuring in 68 matches and scoring five goals, contributing to the team’s victory in the 2024/25 League Cup. He was recognized as the best under-23 player at Manchester United in the 2021-22 season and earned accolades in Portugal, including being named in the ideal eleven of the last Primeira Liga season.

Carreras’ successful stint in Portugal showcases his development, especially after originally joining the youth teams of clubs like Racing de Ferrol and Deportivo de La Coruña. His achievements have caught the attention of national selectors, as he is currently an international player for Spain’s under-21 team.

The addition of Carreras strengthens Real Madrid’s defensive options alongside existing players Fran García and Ferland Mendy, reflecting the club’s commitment to addressing shortcomings in the previous season.

In a broader context, this signing could represent a fresh opportunity for Carreras to make a significant impact at one of the world’s most prestigious football clubs, potentially paving the way for further success in both domestic and international competitions.
