Donnie Wahlberg has exciting news for fans of the “Blue Bloods” franchise: a reunion of the Reagan family is set to take place in the upcoming spinoff series, “Boston Blue.” During a recent panel at the Television Critics Association, Wahlberg revealed that Len Cariou, known for his role as retired police commissioner Henry Reagan, will be making his debut on “Boston Blue” this April.

Wahlberg hinted at additional surprises, stating that both Detective Maria Baez, played by Marisa Ramirez, and Erin Reagan, portrayed by Bridget Moynahan, will also be returning to the show. Both characters were featured in the pilot episode of the spinoff, much to the delight of long-time fans of the franchise. He shared, “Grandpa Reagan’s going to be showing up, and Erin’s going to show up again.”

The actor also discussed the complexities unfolding in Danny Reagan’s life, particularly surrounding his recent decision to join the Boston Police Department. This career move is already affecting his relationship with Maria, and Wahlberg teased that the situation is far from resolved. “I think there are layers to all this still… I will just tell you that it’s not resolved, and she will be back in the coming episodes,” he noted.

The relationships explored in “Boston Blue” are expected to add a rich layer of drama, especially as Wahlberg emphasized that Danny’s changes have an impact on everyone around him. As the show continues to evolve, viewers can expect to witness the fallout from his career change and its effects on his relationships.

“Blue Bloods” enjoyed a successful run over 14 seasons, highlighting the lives of the Reagan family, who form the backbone of the NYPD. Despite the show’s cancellation, the spinoff has sparked renewed interest, although the original show’s star, Tom Selleck, has expressed that he likely won’t reprise his role for the new series, noting, “I think it’s partly my lot in life to make sure Blue Bloods has its place in television history, but I don’t think it’s my lot in life to keep playing Frank Reagan.”

“Boston Blue” is set to return to CBS for episode 10 on February 27, promising an entertaining mix of nostalgia and new storylines that keep viewers engaged. Fans can look forward to the reunion of beloved characters and the new dimensions they will bring to the unfolding narrative.
