Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are gearing up for a significant advantage as key overseas players Josh Hazlewood and Tim David are expected to return for the IPL 2025 playoffs. Jitesh Sharma, the stand-in captain, announced the good news during the toss against the Lucknow Super Giants, confirming that while both players were unavailable for this match, they should be back for the vital knockout stages.
Josh Hazlewood has been a standout performer for RCB this season, taking 18 wickets in just 10 matches before being sidelined on April 27 due to the IPL’s temporary suspension amid cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan. Following this, Hazlewood returned home but has since resumed his training in Brisbane while preparing for the World Test Championship final against South Africa. His full fitness is a promising sign, especially given his pivotal role in RCB’s bowling lineup.
“Josh Hazlewood will be back in the next game,” Sharma expressed, highlighting Hazlewood’s importance to the team’s success at such a crucial time.
Tim David, known for his power-hitting abilities in the middle order, is also on track for a timely return. While he was benched for the match against Lucknow, his comeback is expected to bolster RCB’s lower-order batting just when they need it most.
In the current match, RCB opted to bowl first against Lucknow with hopes of securing a top-two finish in the league stage, providing a safety net for the playoffs. Sharma reflected on the significance of the match, stating, “If we win, we’ll finish in the top two—that’s an added advantage.”
This development for RCB not only brings hope for their playoff aspirations but also showcases the resilience of their squad in navigating through challenging circumstances while preparing to compete at the highest level.
