Arkansas football team is making headlines as they take on Auburn in a critical matchup. The Razorbacks took a 7-0 lead at halftime, largely thanks to the impressive performance of sophomore safety TJ Metcalf, who was pivotal in the first half. Metcalf forced a fumble, tipped a pass that resulted in an interception, and made an interception himself.
Ja’Quinden Jackson scored Arkansas’ only touchdown on a one-yard run, while quarterback Taylen Green proved effective on the ground with 59 rushing yards on 10 carries. Auburn’s ground game showed signs of success, but their quarterback Hank Brown struggled significantly, completing only 7 of 13 passes for 72 yards and three interceptions in the first half.
As the second half began, Auburn finally got on the scoreboard with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Payton Thorne to KeAndre Lambert-Smith, capping a 77-yard drive.
Earlier, in the second quarter, Arkansas had an interception from Metcalf, and the Tigers responded with one of their own courtesy of Sylvester Smith, who returned it near midfield. Arkansas then intercepted Brown again, and later, Metcalf forced a fumble from Auburn’s Damari Alston, which was recovered by Stephen Dix Jr.
Both teams exchanged punts, and Arkansas was unable to capitalize on their opportunities, missing a field goal attempt early in the first quarter.
This game marks their fourth week in the college football season, with Arkansas currently holding a 2-1 record and looking to maintain momentum.
In terms of injuries, Arkansas is without several key players, including defensive backs Jaylon Braxton, Miguel Mitchell, and Hudson Clark, while Auburn has its own injury concerns with players like defensive back Tyler Scott and tight end Brandon Frazier also ruled out.
As weather conditions remain warm with temperatures around 90 degrees at kickoff, both teams look to gain a critical victory in this competitive matchup.
