The Baltimore Ravens have bolstered their defensive lineup by signing pass rusher Carl Lawson, who recently completed a successful workout with the team. The 30-year-old veteran, who boasts seven years of NFL experience, played for the Dallas Cowboys during the 2024 season but has been without a team in 2025.
This strategic acquisition comes on the heels of the Ravens hosting both Lawson and Jesse Luketa for visitations on Monday. With the Ravens experiencing some challenges at outside linebacker—following the trade of Odafe Oweh and a foot injury to Tavius Robinson—they have been leaning on players like Kyle Van Noy, rookie Mike Green, and David Ojabo for defensive depth.
Lawson is well-known for his intriguing career path, having signed a substantial three-year, $45 million contract with the New York Jets prior to the 2021 season. However, a ruptured Achilles kept him from participating that year. He made a strong comeback in 2022, recording seven sacks, which marked his second-highest sack total in a season. Unfortunately, injuries continued to plague him, as he managed to appear in only six games in what would become his last season with the Jets in 2023. Ultimately, Lawson played a total of 23 games for New York during his contract tenure.
Following his stint with the Jets, Lawson joined the Cowboys for the 2024 season, where he again showed his capabilities by securing five sacks.
With Lawson now joining the Ravens, the team aims to strengthen its defensive front and add experience to the squad. His track record of resilience and ability to bounce back after injuries offers a hopeful narrative for Baltimore as they prepare for the upcoming challenges in their season.
