The Baltimore Ravens have released backup offensive guard Ben Cleveland following a three-game suspension for violating the NFL’s Performance-Enhancing Drug Policy. Prior to the suspension, Cleveland had not been actively participating in games, as rookie Emery Jones stood out as the primary backup to starting guards Andrew Vorhees and Daniel Faalele.

During his suspension, Cleveland did not receive any salary and will be eligible to return to the field for the Ravens’ regular-season finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 18. However, he won’t be rejoining the Ravens, as he has now signed with the Los Angeles Chargers’ practice squad, where he will once again work with familiar faces, including General Manager Joe Hortiz and Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman.

Cleveland, who was drafted in the third round in 2021, had a productive previous season in which he participated in all 17 regular-season games and contributed during both playoff matches. Despite completing his rookie contract, he struggled to find new opportunities in free agency.

The player’s suspension followed legal troubles earlier this year when he was arrested for suspected drunk driving in Milledgeville, Georgia. Reports reveal that Cleveland admitted to consuming three to four beers before driving and subsequently failed a field sobriety test. He was cited for DUI and for failure to maintain his lane, and he later pleaded guilty to the charges, resulting in probation.

With a fresh start on the Chargers’ practice squad, Cleveland has the opportunity to revive his career and contribute meaningfully as the NFL season progresses. His move represents a chance for redemption as he navigates this pivotal period in his professional life.
