Ravens’ New Star Shines: Derrick Henry Kicks Off NFL Season with a Bang!

Derrick Henry began his journey with the Baltimore Ravens by scoring the first touchdown of the 2024 NFL season during a matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. The two-time rushing champion, who joined the Ravens after spending eight seasons with the Tennessee Titans, made an immediate impact with a five-yard touchdown run on the opening drive of Thursday’s season opener.

The drive consisted of 11 plays and covered 70 yards, with Henry carrying the ball five times for a total of 17 rushing yards. He concluded the game with 13 carries for 46 yards and one touchdown, while quarterback Lamar Jackson led the Ravens with 122 yards on 16 attempts.

This strong performance is indicative of how the Ravens plan to utilize Henry frequently throughout the season in conjunction with Jackson, establishing a formidable running game. Despite their efforts, the Ravens fell to the Chiefs in a close 27-20 finish.

The Ravens encountered some difficulties during their initial drive, receiving three penalties for illegal formations. However, they managed to overcome these challenges and secure the touchdown. Kansas City quickly answered with its own scoring drive, highlighted by a 21-yard touchdown run from rookie Xavier Worthy on his first NFL touch.

The Chiefs entered halftime with a 13-10 lead and held onto it, as Baltimore’s attempt to equalize in the closing moments was thwarted when a potential touchdown by Isaiah Likely was deemed out of bounds in the back of the end zone.
