Ravens Mourn Arthur Jones, Brother of UFC Champion Jon Jones

Arthur Jones, a former defensive lineman for the Baltimore Ravens and brother to UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones and Pro Bowl defensive end Chandler Jones, has tragically passed away at the age of 39. His unexpected death has left a profound impact on the sports community, as expressed by Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta, who issued a heartfelt statement on Friday afternoon conveying the team’s grief.

“We are terribly saddened to learn of Arthur Jones’ sudden passing,” DeCosta stated. He went on to highlight Jones’ remarkable character, noting, “Arthur’s presence was a gift to everyone he encountered. His big, bright smile, infectious energy, and eternal positivity created a presence that continuously uplifted others. He was kind, courteous, and enthusiastic — always displaying a love for family, teammates, and friends.”

Jones was known not only for his contributions on the field but also for his vibrant personality. He was a pivotal player during the Ravens’ victorious 2012 season, where he recorded a critical sack and fumble recovery in Super Bowl XLVII against the San Francisco 49ers. A notable highlight of that game was his sack of quarterback Colin Kaepernick, which occurred immediately before a power outage in the Superdome. His contributions during that season helped Baltimore secure its second Super Bowl title, defeating several legendary quarterbacks along the way.

Drafted in the fifth round by the Ravens out of Syracuse, Jones made a significant impact with 20 starts over his tenure from 2010 to 2013. He accumulated 100 total tackles, 8.5 sacks, and 13 tackles for loss during a productive run with the team. After leaving Baltimore, he played three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts and one with the Washington Football Team, finishing his NFL career with 10 sacks and an impressive legacy, capped off by his Super Bowl ring.

Arthur Jones will be remembered for both his athletic talent and the joy he brought to those around him. His legacy extends beyond the gridiron, reflecting a spirit of positivity and camaraderie that resonated with teammates and fans alike.
