Labasa Set for Ratu Sukuna Bowl Showdown as Fiji Police Aim to Defend Trophy Against RFMF

Ratu Sukuna Bowl Showdown: Police Vow to Defend Trophy in Labasa

The Fiji Police Force is poised to defend their title in the prestigious Ratu Sukuna Bowl against the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) next month in Labasa. This highly competitive annual sporting event, renowned for its intense rivalry, comprises various contests including rugby and soccer, taking place at Subrail Park on November 20th and 21st.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Aporosa Lutunauga, conveyed confidence in the police team’s preparation, noting that despite being seen as the underdogs, they are resolute in their mission to hold onto the coveted trophy. “To say that we are not aiming to retain the trophy would be a straight-out lie. The trophy will remain here in Nasova,” Lutunauga affirmed, underlining the importance of this year’s competition, which is particularly special as it marks a return to Labasa after a significant interval.

This year’s event is especially significant as it coincides with the Fiji Police Force’s 150th Anniversary. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mesake Waqa also shared Lutunauga’s enthusiasm, expressing the players’ determination to perform at their best not just for themselves, but for their families and supporters. He acknowledged the strong challenge posed by the RFMF, who are eager to reclaim the title after the Police emerged victorious in a thrilling final last year.

As the event draws closer, the Fiji Police Rugby team is bolstered by the renewed support from various sponsors, including Shop N Save. Waqa urged fans to come out in full force to support their team across all sporting events, emphasizing the importance of community and spirit alongside competition.

The tournament kicks off on Tuesday with boxing events, showcasing a range of athletic talents and fostering camaraderie among the participants. As both teams gear up for this fierce showdown, they not only aim for victory but also celebrate the rich traditions they represent, highlighting the unity and sportsmanship integral to Fiji’s athletic culture. This year’s Ratu Sukuna Bowl promises a blend of fierce competition and community engagement, reflecting the true spirit of sports in Fiji.
