In a thrilling giant slalom event held recently in Semmering, Austria, Swiss skier Rast showcased her exceptional abilities, finishing ahead of Austria’s standout Scheib. Despite Scheib’s strong performance—having won three of the previous five races—she was unable to close the gap, finishing 0.20 seconds behind Rast after a stellar second run.
The day also marked a significant achievement for the USA women’s tech team, with Moltzan finishing on the podium for the second time this season, rebounding impressively from a recent heavy crash. The team boasted three skiers in the top eight, highlighting their growing competitiveness.
Defending Olympic giant slalom champion Sara Hector of Sweden and the legendary Mikaela Shiffrin from the USA rounded out the prestigious top five finishers. Notably, Alice Robinson of New Zealand, another top contender, struggled again, unable to complete the first run for the second consecutive giant slalom event.
The season is shaping up to be highly competitive, as evidenced by the fact that nine different skiers have already claimed a spot on the World Cup GS podium this year. Rast’s recent win and her second-place finish last week have propelled her into a strong position in the season standings, ranking second after Scheib. As the competition continues to unfold, Rast has emerged as one to watch, signaling an exciting season ahead for alpine skiing fans.
