Rarawai Mill Reopens After Fire Repairs

Rarawai Mill Reopens After Fire Repairs

The Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) has announced the reopening of the Rarawai Mill scheduled for tomorrow after significant restoration efforts were undertaken following a fire that damaged the mill’s powerhouse on September 17.

FSC’s Chief Executive Officer, Bhan Pratap Singh, confirmed that all major repairs and safety measures have been successfully completed, paving the way for the mill to resume operations safely. “Comprehensive restoration, safety assessments, and operational readiness checks have been finalized to ensure the facility is fully prepared for safe and efficient operations,” Singh stated.

The company noted that while all major maintenance issues arising from the fire have been addressed, some minor tasks remain. However, these will not hinder the start-up or the ongoing crushing process. Singh emphasized that the engineering and technical teams collaborated closely with authorities to ensure compliance with safety and operational requirements ahead of the reopening.

Farmers will be able to resume normal cane deliveries to the mill starting tomorrow, with FSC field staff coordinating efforts with growers and gangs supplying cane to Rarawai. “FSC remains committed to supporting growers and ensuring continuity of supply for the remainder of the crushing season,” Singh remarked. He further expressed confidence in the mill’s readiness, stating, “Our focus now is on maintaining operational stability and delivering smooth, consistent milling operations going forward.”

This positive development marks a crucial turn for local sugar growers and the industry, ensuring that operations will not only resume but also be strengthened through enhanced safety measures.
